Remodeling Tips

Wyeth Woodworking and Remodeling is unique in another way—we’re not out to make you spend a bundle. We don’t even want you to spend your entire budget with us. Take a look at some of the best ways to build a realistic budget and stick to it. If we can help you cut needless corners within your budget, we will do it, while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship for your home.

  • To start, find a local professional contractor. Check the references and find out the buzz about this contractor in your hometown or even neighborhood. This contractor is more likely to know local building codes and may be able to help with permits.
  • Go through the design process on your own before bringing a contractor into your home. Pick out all the components that will go in your space including appliances and fixtures, paint and potential materials for the project. This way, when the contract is drawn up, it can be done quickly and efficiently while keeping exactly what you want in mind. The preliminary part of the process will go by fast, and your dream room or home will be well on its way.
  • To help you and your contractor better understand what it is you want to accomplish with your space, cut out magazine photos of the cabinets, counter tops, faucets and finishes.
  • The price of a service or material may be the first thing on your mind, but do not let it be the only thing on your mind. The quality of a product will lend to its longevity and beauty.
  • You want more space in your home? Instead of  building on more square footage and increasing the price of your house, try eliminating walls between rooms—space reconfiguration—or adding shelves or lights to create the illusion of more space. Keep one thing in mind if you are going to add on to your home—have a HVAC contractor assess your home to make sure your heating and cooling systems are adequate for your new space.
  • Approximately 20-25% of a home's value is a good financial estimation for budgeting a kitchen remodeling project and 10-15% for a major bathroom renovation.  These estimations generally support the value of the home and neighborhood.
  • www.costvsvalue.com compares the average cost for 35 popular remodeling projects and the value that those projects retain at resale.

During The Project

  • For a kitchen remodeling project, place items in plastic totes with labels so that you are able to locate items. Ensure that one of the totes contains essentials and can be easily accessed.
  •  Always secure pets away from the work area.  Pets can escape easily from a work zone, get injured or, out of fear, injure a worker.

Wyeth Woodworking and Remodeling’s expert consultants and contractors will help you make the most of your budget and give you the peace of mind you so gravely desire during the remodeling process.
